Write a Feasibility / Recommendation Report
A suburb of Dallas, Texas, has been widening Stafford Street from two lanes to six lanes, and the First
Presbyterian Church on Stafford Street is greatly affected by the project. The church is losing quite a bit of
property, including part of the parking lot, for the street widening. Obviously, the church must replace the
parking lot and thus figured that this might be a good time to make some other changes they’ve been wanting to
make:
1. Reconfigure the parking lot to create more parking spaces and to ease the traffic flow.
2. Landscape the front of the church to make it more attractive.
3. Replace and move the church sign, which is plastic coated and will be too close to the street once it is
widened.
4. Add a porte cochere, which is a covered drive-thru for protection from rain and snow.
The Special Projects Committee, headed by Holly Sims, has been doing a feasibility study to see whether the
church should do more than just replace the parking lot. The committee is now ready to make a
recommendation to the pastor, David Kim, based on this preliminary data.
Directions
Read through the information on the next page and write a feasibility/ recommendation report that recommends
the first three projects. You will have to read through it and make sure the report follows a logical flow. Use the
reports in your book as guidelines.
? Use memo format. Keep your paragraphs short.
? Introduction: Write an introduction that identifies the project and previews the report. An introduction
includes the following three parts.
o Tells the purpose of the report.
o Describes the significance of the topic.
o Previews the main points in the order they will be developed.
? Facts and Finding Information
o Use headings to divide this main section into each of the four projects.
o Include the expenses and pledges in table format and refer to them in the report. It is easier for
the reader if a summary of the selected figures is in one location. Therefore, the expenses and
pledges should be a separate heading.
o Make sure you introduce the table and explain how it relates to the content in the document.
Do not assume the reader knows why it is there or what it means.
o The Summary of Expenses should be after you have explained your findings.
? Conclusions: Write a separate conclusions section. (See template.)
? Recommendations: Write a separate recommendations section. (See template.)
? Format guidelines:
o Headings are a sans serif font (Arial); text is a serif font (Times New Roman)
o Use single spaced, block style paragraphs.
