Each chemotherapy treatment takes 5 hours
The Cancer Treatment is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.
Scenario 1
You have 20 patients that need daily radiation treatment and the weekly chemotherapy treatment.
-
- It’s Thursday, Schedule the patients (P1 through P20 ) beginning at 8 AM Monday and going through Friday of the following week
- Daily Radiation – 1 technician operates the Versa HD Linear Accelerator; 1 technician communicates with the patient via intercom to ensure proper position, comfort level, and issues
- Weekly Chemotherapy – each Chemotherapy Certified Registered Nurse can manage 5 patients at a time
- Weekly Review Meeting, which takes 30 minutes with the patient in the presence of both the Radiation Oncologist and Chemotherapy specialist
- CT Scan – weekly – A radiation technician needs to set it up and turn it, but then any technician or RN can monitor it to ensure it runs the entire 30-minute cycl
- Assume all employees are present during the scheduling for the week.
Scenario 2
- After the schedule is made, it’s now Monday morning, 8 AM, you hear a loud crash from the Radiation Room – one of Versa Laser Beam Accelerators came decoupled from the bolts in the ceiling … you are now down to 1 machine
- How do you “juggle” the resources to ensure patients get their treatment based on the plan
- What key questions should you be asking right now?
- What actions should you be taking to ensure patient care?
Scenario 3
- After the schedule is made, it’s now Wednesday at 8 AM, all equipment is running. 2 radiation technicians and 1 Certified Chemotherapy Registered Nurse called in sick
- How do you “juggle” the resources to ensure patients get their treatment based on the plan
- What key questions should you be asking right now?
- What actions should you be taking to ensure patient care?
Scenario 4
- After the schedule is made, it’s now Friday at 8 AM. All equipment is running; both the Administrative Assistant and Dr. Fugasi call in sick
- How do you “juggle” the resources to ensure patients get their treatment based on the plan
- What key questions should you be asking now?
- What actions should you be taking to ensure patient care?
