The question that I chose to answer is, “What causes someone to remain committed to their organization.”
Participants:I interviewed four individuals for different jobs that they perform at different organizations. They are all different ages with different backgrounds.
The first person I chose to interview is Ahmad. He works as an Accounting Manager in the banking industry. He manages five employees, and he oversees balancing each branch location for the credit union. He is also in charge of ensuring that everything runs smoothly in the credit union. The second person that I interviewed is Sendy. She also works in the banking industry as a Senior Accountant. She is in charge of the wires, accounts payable, and reconciliation for each branch location. The third participant is Oliver. He works at a baking company as a baker and decorator. He mainly works more independently, but he oversees making customer’s cakes in a timely manner. He also deals with customer complaints. The last participant I chose to interview is Tamika. She works as a nurse in the Healthcare industry. She has many patients each and every day, and sometimes travels to different states as a nurse.Interview Questions:What motivates you to come into work each day? What made you want to work for this organization? What are the things that you have done at this company that you are the proudest of and why? What is one thing that you would like to work on in your role? Or do differently. Are there any aspects of the organization culture that you would like to change?Responses to interview questions:What motivates you to come into work each day?
Ahmad: “My team makes me want to come into work each day, and I love being able to help them with any problems that they face.”Sendy: “My manager makes me want to come, he is always so helpful, and I know that I will be able to get all my work done in a timely manner”Oliver: “Seeing the customers smile about my work keeps me wanting to come into work each day”Tamika: “My patients motivate me to come into work. Since Covid I have really build a bond with them.”What made you want to work for this organization?
Ahmad: “The work-life balance made me want to work here. I am able to spend a lot of time with family.”Sendy: “The benefits are really good here. I do not spend a lot on healthcare for my children while working here.”Oliver: “I love what I do, and my job lets me be able to show my creative side, and I work with a lot of amazing people.”Tamika: “My company gives me a flexible schedule, since being a nurse is a lot of hours but being able to make my own schedule is the best.”What are the things that you have done at this company that you are the proudest of and why?
Ahmad: “Being able to find a new invoice processing software that saves my employees time was the best moment for me. They are now able to do the job at a fast pace.”Sendy: “When I won employee of the year for 2020. I feel like I worked so hard that year and it paid off for me big time.”Oliver: When I finally got to make a wedding cake and my company made over $1,500.00 that day, and the customers came back to me for all their other events.”Tamika: “When I was able to save a life of one of my favorite patients. I think about it each time I go to work”What is one thing that you would like to work on in your role? Or do differently.
Ahmad: “I would like to work on more software to help my employees with their workload.”Sendy: “I would say the benefits, I am able to have good and cheap health insurance for me and my children”.Oliver:” Just becoming a better baker each day”.Tamika: “Being able to handle time management more. Although I make my own schedule I am often still late for important things.”Are there any aspects of the organization culture that you would like to change?
Ahmad: “I would not change a thing in the culture. I love my job”Sendy: “I would say just how they handle conflict in the organization. I feel as though they overlook it instead of confronting the problem head on”.Oliver:” I really do not have anything that I would like to change at the moment”.Tamika: “Being able to handle time management more. Although I make my own schedule I am often still late for important things.”Constructs:After hearing what each of my participants had to say I can tell that they are really motivated from the people that they work with and what the job has to offer. One of the participants mentioned benefits. As a working mother myself I can relate to that; having good healthcare benefits are very important. It is also nice hearing how much each participant likes to work with their team. That is also very important to have a great relationship with your team. You work with them each day, so being able to have a helpful team is the best feeling ever.
Theory:Having a good team with great benefits really motivates the employees and keeps them committed to their organization. Having good benefits that are also not too pricey for your employees keeps them happy. There are so many people that I interviewed that has started their own family and being able to have work life balance is amazing. This is what a lot of people look for when applying for jobs. There are so many factors that plays a role in organizational commitment, it was very interesting to hear different people views and what they experience in their organization.
Hypothesis:“Having good benefits and good working teams will help employees stay committed to the organization, due to them being able to do what they love while also making them happy with what the organization has to offer.”
