The college director of global activities was hopeful that the print ads in the school newspaper and 30 second spots on the campus radio station would spur some interest in the array of study tour and study abroad options he had secured. The communications director for the college had other ideas; she favored a social media campaign consisting of tweets and Facebook postings. “This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard of,” he whined to the dean.
The communications director’s market research revealed the following:

Medium Exposure Cost
Newspaper 5,000 $500
Radio 3,000 $250
Twitter 700 $25
Facebook 200 $15

The advertising budget is $3500, but there is no requirement that all the money be spent. The newspaper has only four issues before the end of the semester, but the radio is a 24/7 operation and has two dozen 30 second slots available. Facebook postings must be alternated with the rest of the mindless drivel posted on the college page; thus there is space for only three postings before the end of the semester. Twitter is complicated by the 140-character requirement. The communications director feels she needs five tweets to convey a single message about tours and semesters abroad, so for one message, the cost would be $25 for each of the five components of the single ad. Due to thumb fatigue, she feels that she has only 2800 characters left in her thumbs before the end of the semester. (A side note – During the intersession period, she plans to embark on a strict regimen of thumb yoga to prepare for the coming semester.)

A pharmaceutical company manufactures two drugs at Los Angeles and Indianapolis. The cost of manufacturing a pound of each drug depends on the location, as indicated in the file P13 42.xlsx. The machine time (in hours) requires to produce a pound of each drug at each city is also shown in this table. The company must produce at least 1000 pounds per week of drug 1 and at least 2000 pounds per week of drug 2. It has 500 hours per week of machine time at Indianapolis and 400 hours per week at Los Angeles.

a. Determine how the company can minimize the cost of producing the required drugs.

Hint: This problem has 4 decision variables and 4 constraints

Drug 1 Drug 2
Indianapolis Los Angeles Indianapolis Los Angeles
Unit cost $4.10 $4.00 $4.50 $5.20

CIVIL LAW & PROCEDURE – FALL 2021 CARL CANINE FACT PATTERN On October 31, 2019, Carl Canine had a Halloween Party and invited many of his friends. There was no rain and it was warm enough, so Carl had the party in his backyard. His house was located on Main Street (123 Main Street) in Brooklyn, New York. Also at the party was Carl’s dog which was a Pit Bull named Bruno. Bruno was on a 8 foot long chain in which one end was a collar around Bruno’s neck, and the other end was attached to the railing of the steps in the backyard. The chain and collar was manufactured by a Michigan Corporation called “Leashes R Us, Inc.”, which has its principal place of business in Michigan. Leashes R Us sells its leashes all over the country, and derives substantial revenue by supplying it’s leashes to pet stores in New York. This particular collar was made for big dogs and was advertised as rust proof. Therefore, Carl would leave the collar outside regardless of the weather. Also at the party was a friend of Carl’s named Laura Lenox, who was a 20 year old college student who lived in the Bronx. As the night went on, Laura had several glasses of “punch” which was actually a mixture of fruit punch and alcohol. Whoever mixed it clearly wanted more alcohol in there than fruit punch. At approximately 11:30 P.M., Laura was talking with Carl and they were standing about 15 feet from Bruno. They began to laugh loudly, and then Laura began to jokingly hit and push Carl. Suddenly, Bruno started to bark and run toward Laura, and Laura started to run away. The collar which was around Bruno’s neck snapped and broke. Bruno continued to bark and run toward Laura and he bit Laura on the leg. Laura continued to run after she was bitten, and ran across the backyard, onto the sidewalk and into the street. Meanwhile, Mr. Homer Smith was driving his car down Main Street right by Carl’s house. Homer was from Georgia and was just in New York visiting a friend. He had never been to New York before that day. He was driving 40 MPH and the speed limit on that street was 25 MPH. As he got near the house, he saw Laura dart out into the street. He slammed on his brakes, however, he was unable to avoid Laura and struck her with his car causing her to be thrown 20 feet in the air. Laura lay on the ground, and 10 minutes later, the police and ambulance arrived. The ambulance took Laura to Brooklyn Hospital. Carl and Homer gave statements to the police. As a result of the accident, Laura had 20 stitches in her leg from the dog bite, and x-rays revealed she suffered a fractured leg from the car accident. At the hospital, blood was taken from Laura and it revealed a blood/alcohol level of .4 which is considered highly intoxicated. It also revealed a small trace of marijuana in her system. The laceration on her leg was stitched up and her leg was placed in a cast. Two weeks later, Laura went to see Dr. Doom, an orthopaedist. Additional x-rays were taken which showed the fracture was healing. Dr. Doom did not believe Laura would need surgery. He also advised Laura that he heard from the Veterinarian who said that the dog did not have rabies. Laura was in the cast for 7 weeks and then started on a program of physical therapy 3 times per week for 3 months. Laura became very fearful of dogs although she has not seen a psychologist. Laura Lenox comes into your Law Office and wants to bring a lawsuit. Using this fact pattern, we will discuss the following issues: Statute of Limitations Jurisdiction Venue Pleadings Discovery

How do I do that ?????

1.Using the Laura Lenox v. Carl Canine fact pattern, please draft a Complaint on behalf of Laura against Carl, Homer Smith, and Leashes R Us.

  • Review Chapters 8 and 9 of your course text. As you read, consider the typical import, export, and sourcing factors that determine or impact firms’ choices for entering global markets.
  • Conduct research on and familiarize yourself with at least two countries that you have not already focused on in your Discussions and Assignments in previous weeks.
  • Think about the relationship between the most common exporting strategies used in these two countries and the international trade policies to which they are subject. Consider the broad organizational challenges companies must overcome in the market-country, as well as more specific issues related to tariffs, exchange rates, and payment methods.
  • Select either the small business/product from your Week 3 Assignment or a new and different one (real or fictitious).

For this Discussion, describe an ad that is a full page (approximately 8.5″ x 11″). Your ad (such as a small “poster”) is for the country that, of the two you have examined for this Discussion, fits better with your global marketing goals based on your business and product. You do not need to create the actual ad—simply describe the components according to the outline below:

  • Headline: Propose a possible headline for your advertisement.
  • Primary/Secondary Imagery: What type of photos/imagery/illustrations would you use for your ad? Be as descriptive as necessary, touching on demographics of people who would appear or the photographic or illustrative style that would be used.
  • Body Copy: What verbiage would you include in the body of your ad?
  • “Sell” the country to a group of marketing executives, convincing them that the selected country is their best bet for globalization. Explain the reasons why the country is the better choice.
