Managerial Controls and Managing in a Global EnvironmentManagerial Controls and Managing in a Global Environment
In our last unit, we explore the control function of management (the “C†in our model of planning, organizing, leading, controlling). In short, every successful organization implements controls. In addition, we will wrap up our course with the complex topic of managing in a global environment. Think of all the concepts we have touched upon – from organizational design and structure, culture and strategy to human resources, leadership, teamwork, and diversity. These items are becoming more relevant and difficult to manage due to the global nature of today’s business landscape.
Every organization is affected in some way by the global environment. In this unit, we will examine what managers need to know about managing globally. For example, leadership models found in the U. S. will have some relevance in other countries. Managers can display and exercise different managerial styles, and employees can also differ in their preferences for different leadership approaches across the globe.
