Health Information Technology (IT) has become increasingly more popular among health care organizations and physicians. The creation of health IT has given health care providers a better opportunity to oversee patient care in a secure and accessible way. “By developing secure and private electronic health records for most Americans and making health information available electronically when and where it is needed, health IT can improve the quality of care, even as it makes health care more cost effective” (Health Information Technology Integration, 2019). However, the implementation of health IT has raised some challenges to include costs, workflow and staffing, and technical concerns (Gabriel et al., 2014). Organizations moving to IT systems need to plan and prepare not only their patients for the upcoming change, but they must take the time to properly train their employees. If employees are unfamiliar with the system change then security issues or HIPPA violations could become an even bigger issue. Something that an organization may want to consider is implementing the system change in a small unit as a trail run to see how the patients react to the new IT system and how well the staff members adjust to the new program. Once the small unit has had time to use the new system the organization can discuss the issues they have experienced, questions or concerns they have received since the change. This will give the organization an opportunity to come up with solutions before implementing an IT system change for a larger community.

Health Information Technology (HIT) has become prominent in the medical field. Most rural hospitals have adopted the use of HIT, but now looks more like they have grown towards the Electronic Health Records (EHR) instead. Main challenges involved in implementing public HIT projects are financial instability or in other words it being too costly. A second step is work flow and staffing or not having the appropriate EHR training. Third step is not having a large enough broadband to be able to support that many patients personal health information (PHI) (Gabriel, M., Jones, E., Salmy, L., King, J., 2014). When a doctor form goes missing, total chaos can happen.
